Mission Statement:The Logan Heights Veterans Memorial Committee would like to acknowledge and recognize the service and ultimate sacrifice made by our own Logan Heights brothers and sisters. The Logan Heights Veterans Memorial will be a location in Chicano Park where the community can go to pay respect to and reflect upon the contributions of their relatives and friends. The Veterans Memorial should be a place where everyone, regardless of opinion and with no political statement, can come together to remember and honor our Logan Heights heroes. Introduction:The United States Servicemen/women have displayed undying valor and honor in every American conflict dating back to World War I. We recognize the contribution and ultimate sacrifice made by our hometown military men an women. To promote patriotism and recognize the contribution of these heroes to our proud Logan Heights heritage, we want to honor our Logan Heights Veterans with a memorial monument. Objective:
Summary:Throughout the 20th and 21st century, Logan Heights Veterans have defended this great nations honor throughout the world. Military service has provided the Logan Heights residents the opportunity to serve our country, become a U.S. citizen, earn a living, purchase homes and property, obtain a college education and vote. These are the very people who established and grew up in the community known today as Logan Heights. Logan Heights residents continue to serve with dedication and steadfast vigilance as both officers and enlisted personnel. Our Logan Heights military brothers and sisters have clearly distinguished themselves in both peacetime and combat. Their brave actions have played a vital role in proving their undying loyalty to San Diego communities and the the United States of America. The sad part of the story is that as a community we have never paid tribute to the Logan Heights men and women who have served this great nation. Many in the community are not aware of our Veterans contribution to the country and to Logan Heights. We must educate ourselves about these men and women who served in our military and made a difference for world freedom and democracy. We also cannot forget the great toll paid by our families of these brave Americans who suffered injuries and deaths during all conflicts. Logan Heights Veterans have earned the respect and appreciation of our community and of San Diego. Logan Heights residents have proven that they can be counted on to protect this nation from any threat of harm and from those who would destroy our freedom. Logan Heights citizens offer their lives, blood and souls in the defense of this nation. These brave men and women earned and created a new life for their families and have provided their children with the vision and strength to continue making our community strong. We are proud of the community they have created for us. The community of Logan Heights owes these men and women the recognition they deserve for their unyielding fighting spirit and sacrifices they have made for our prosperity and freedom. Now is the time for the Logan Heights community to give a long overdue recognition to these brave men and women and we ask for your support. Our fallen heroes have certainly earned it and the community deserves it. The Monument:Our vision is for the monument in Chicano Park to be a place where the Logan Heights community can go and stand in peace to remember and pay tribute to our fallen heroes. The monument would:
The monument should be designed by someone in the community. It would be especially meaningful if the artist was a war veteran; however, these are not requirements. Designs will be submitted to a committee where they will be examined and selected by the committee. This is a community project and we seek community input and consensus on the specifics of the monument. Donations:All funds for this project will be raised entirely through private contributions from corporations, foundations, grants, unions, veterans and civic groups.
